On Saturday evenings during the summer months, St Ives Surf Life Saving Club hold their training on Porthmeor Beach. This particular Saturday, 2nd July, it was cancelled due to a high tide and as my children were already dressed in their wetsuits - me and a friend decided to stay down and let them play. We had a chat and a coffee and then... Wow.. the dolphins came out to play! My friend spotted them, there must have been about 10 of them, playing in and out of the waves - they looked like they were surfing! Remembering that I had my camera, I grabbed it form my bag, zoomed in on the dolphins and photographed them. I was so pleased that I captured them coming in and out of the waves but to photograph the surfer, surfing the waves with them was just amazing. I put the photos on my personal facebook page and the photos went viral - it's amazing how social media works. WIth phonecalls from news agencies, I was shocked that on Tuesday 5th July my photographs had made it to the National Newspapers. An amazing weekend and one that I won't forget.
As Andy Warhol said 'In the future, everyone will be world famous for 15 minutes' Guess that's mine then!!
