Moving from their own home into a care home is a major life transition for older people, especially when it is thrust upon them but with the right support, these residents begin to realise that their quality of life can be maintained and in many cases, improved. Many of these residents had never thought about living in a home but suddenly, life changes and you have to look at the alternatives.
Life in a home is unique for each individual and it became clear that whilst life in Ar-Lyn is one of transition, development and progression, it is also a very special place with very special people.
For my final major project, I visited Ar-Lyn on numerous occasions and engaged with the residents whilst taking their photographs with a medium format film camera. I produced a book, a set of portfolio prints and a set of exhibition prints based around the home.
